Villa boss hoping Clark is ready to go after head injury

Published on: 17 April 2012

Aston Villa’s Ciaran Clark should be right to continue playing this season despite suffering a nasty gash on his head yesterday.

The 22-year old midfielder collided with the elbow of Manchester United’s Patrice Evra in the 4-0 loss at Old Trafford, which required stitches, but manager Alex McLeish expects him to be available for the visit of Sunderland on Saturday.

"Ciaran took a head knock but I don't believe there was concussion," McLeish said.

"He has had stitches but he should be OK. Hopefully he is able to train this week and we will try to sharpen him up."
