Wilson commits to Cherries

Published on: 13 July 2019

Callum Wilson has revealed that he has signed a new four-year contract with Bournemouth because he believes he can keep improving at the club.

The 27-year-old striker, who had been linked with a transfer to West Ham United this summer, has pledged his future to the Cherries until 2023.

Wilson moved to the Vitality Stadium from Coventry City in 2014 and has scored 53 goals in 136 league appearances for Eddie Howe's team.

In September 2015 he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee before suffering the same injury to his left knee in February 2017.

Wilson scored a goal on his England debut eight months ago in the 3-0 friendly victory against the USA before going on to represent his country in the Euro 2020 qualifier in Montenegro and last month's Nations League match against Switzerland.

He said: "We've improved in all areas since I initially joined the club but there's still a long way to go. While Bournemouth may be known as a smaller club, we've got some really big ambitions here.

"Everyone is pulling in the same direction towards those targets and goals.

"I feel like, as an individual, my game is constantly improving here at the club. I want to continue that progress and reach even higher targets. I'm really excited about what the future holds."

Bournemouth are 4/1 to be relegated from the Premier League in the 2019/20 season and 17/20 to beat newly-promoted Sheffield United in their opening game on 10th August.
