English side Sunderland will face a strong opposition to sign on loan Ghana defender John Mensah after an excellent World Cup performance, his agent has revealed.

The 27-year-old centre-back has helped Ghana reach the quarter-finals of the World Cup in South Africa, sparking interest from other clubs in the Lyon stopper.

The agent of former Sunderland loan defender John Mensah has admitted that the Black Cats face competition to complete a permanent deal.

Mensah's agent Fabien Pivateau said:"Yes, there has been an offer for John from a club in France.

"He has played very well in the World Cup and I think that people have noticed what a good player he is again.

"For John and for me, he wants to go back to Sunderland. He loves the people, he loves the atmosphere, he loves the manager and he loves the club. He feels at home at Sunderland.

"But I do not know what will happen and Lyon have other offers now. We will have to wait and see until after the World Cup."
