Zanetti hopeful of upturn in February fortunes for Inter

Vice-president Javier Zanetti is hopeful that Inter will be able to return to their pre-Christmas form in February, after getting a disappointing January out-of-the-way.

The Nerazzurri entered 2016 at the top of Serie A, but since failed to win a single game in January, dropping to fourth place as a result.

“January was a difficult month for us,” he admitted to Premium Sport. “But fortunately it is over now and we hope for a change in February.

Speaking before the 1-0 victory against Chievo, the Argentinian also praised his fellow countryman Mauro Icardi, insisting that the club do have faith in him despite the recent signing of forward Eder from Sampdoria.

“We have great confidence in him,” he confirmed. “The whole team supported the decision to make him captain, it is something that will help his development. In the dressing room he is a leader.”

He continued: “We signed Eder because he has different characteristics from the strikers already in the squad.”
