AC Milan icon Paolo Maldini could reportedly be set for a return to the club, should the Chinese consortium complete their potential takeover of Milan.

The group of Chinese investors are looking to offer the 47-year-old a leading role similar to that of Juventus’ vice-president, Pavel Nedved, as the first step to restoring the fortunes of the Diavolo.

As reported by Tuttosport, the Chinese consortium will look to bring Maldini back to the Stadio San Siro as they believe his influence and knowledge can help the club end its current state of misery, while propelling them back into the upper echelons of European football.

The former Milan captain was recently honoured by Spanish side Athletic Bilbao with a one-man club award, after spending his whole playing career with the Italian giants, making a total of 647 appearances and scoring 29 goals.
