Bonucci issues Milan warning

Published on: 15 January 2019

Juventus' Leonardo Bonucci is relishing the prospect of taking on former club AC Milan in Wednesday's Super Cup clash.

The great rivals meet in the Saudi city of Jeddah for what will be the 31st edition of the annual contest and with seven titles each, the winner will set a new record of eight Supercoppa Italiana titles.

Juve have won the last six meetings between the sides, with the last success for the Rossoneri coming via penalties when they met in this match in 2016.

There's a great desire to bring home the trophy.

The Bianconeri have won four straight domestic doubles but have lost three of the last four Super Cups and despite his side's dominance, Massimiliano Allegri may feel they have a point to prove.

Bonucci is another man who will be taking on some familiar faces in Jeddah, with the defender having returned to Turin in the summer following just one season at the San Siro.

The 31-year-old may have some inside knowledge on how his former team will approach the game and expects them to play with the type of aggression that characterised their coach Gennaro Gattuso's career.

Ahead of the match, the three-time Supercoppa Italiana champion has warned Milan that Juventus are desperate to claim the trophy.

"There's a great desire to bring home the trophy because it's our first objective and as always Juventus play to win," the defender told JTV.

"For our part, we've come here with great enthusiasm and desire to win. We'll need to be aggressive but careful because Gattuso's Milan play good football, which can cause us problems.

"Its always nice when you go to stadiums that are so big and full of people. We're used to it because our stadium is always full. It'll fire us up even more."

Juve are 1/2 to win the game, with the draw 31/10 and Milan 13/2.
