Carpi v Sassuolo – Preview: Biancorossi need points in local derby

Published on: 01 April 2016

Two teams who have it all to play for will do battle on Saturday evening when Carpi host Sassuolo at the Stadio Alberto Braglia.

The Biancorossi currently find themselves 17th in the table, sharing 28 points with relegation zone dwellers Palermo.

Menawhile, Sassuolo occupy seventh place, four points behind AC Milan with a slim chance of pushing for European football next season.

Carpi took a wonderful chance to finally lift themselves above the relegation zone last time out, winning 2-1 against fellow relegation-battlers Hellas Verona. They now have two wins on the trot and coach Fabrizio Castori will now be desperate to see his side keep a hold of their good run of form and pick up yet more points, in an effort to stave of relegation once and for all.

Sassuolo are in the midst of a race of different sorts with an aim for Europa League football firmly in their sights. A disappointing 1-1 draw with Udinese saw them just fail to create an even tighter gap with Milan, yet Eusebio Di Francesco’s men will undoubtedly push for glory until the very end.

The reverse fixture back in November saw Sassuolo emerge as 1-0 victors, with Nicola Sansone’s 28th minute strike settling the tie early on.

Carpi will be forced to make do without the injured Jonathan De Guzman this time round, whilst Sassuolo look set to line up with roughly the same team that drew 1-1 against Udinese the previous week, with no fresh injury worries.
