Elphick forecasts successful year

Tommy Elphick says that he sees no reason why Huddersfield can't have an enjoyable and successful first season back in the Championship.

The Terriers were relegated after two seasons in the Premier League and are back in the second tier, having made the central defender their first signing of the summer.

First of all, we need to restore that confidence, get back to winning ways and get back into that habit.

The 31-year joins after his release from Aston Villa and comes with extensive experience.

Starting his career with Brighton, he moved to Bournemouth and skippered the side to promotions to both the Championship and then the Premier League.

He joined Villa 2016 and played 14 times for Dean Smith's side last season while also spending time on loan at Hull.

He said, on completing his move to West Yorkshire, that after relegation last season, the club will seek to rapidly get back to winning ways.

He told HTTV: "Watching from the outset from the last three years, the connection the players have with the fans, the team spirit the club has been renowned for and the recent success that the club has had, it's a good challenge for me at this stage of my career.

"First of all, we need to restore that confidence, get back to winning ways and get back into that habit.

"I believe with the playing squad and the staff we've got we can have an enjoyable and successful year."

Huddersfield, after just surviving in their first season in the top flight, succumbed to relegation last season, winning just three games all season, finishing bottom of the table with 16 points, 20 points off safety.

The Terriers, under head coach Jan Siewert, are priced at 16/1 to win the Championship title next season and seal an instant return to the Premier League.

Leeds, who missed out in the playoffs, are 11/2 with Fulham 8/1.
