Former Asante Kotoko goalkeeper George Owu has called on the media to ease the pressure on coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor following the club's participation in the CAF Confederation Cup.

C.K Akonnor has been under immense pressure to deliver in the continent's second tier competition despite being the first gaffer to lead the side into the group stages for the first time since 2008.

According to reports in Kumasi, the 44-year nearly quit as coach of the club ahead of the game against Nkana FC in Kumasi, only for C.E.O of the club Mr. George Amoako to intervene.

George Owu, who played for the club between 2000-2004 believes pressure from the media on the coach to deliver is too much and wants that to be watered down a bit.

“C.K. Akonnor needs a lot of patience from the media. There’s a lot of pressure associated with the Asante Kotoko job. The media should take it easy on him. He is doing very well," he told Sikka Sports.

Asante Kotoko will leave Accra for Ndola on Wednesday for the final group game against Zesco on Sunday.
