Ex-Ghana striker Baffour Gyan has presented himself to the police in Kumasi and released on bail after he was reported by a journalist, claiming he masterminded an attack on the reporter during the training session à of the Black Stars on Friday.
This comes after Ghana Journalist Association's Kumasi branch alleged that the brother of Black Stars captain - Asamoah Gyan,Ã led a group of thugs to beat up the journalist for asking a sensitive question during a press soiree for the national team on Wednesday.
Daily Graphic reporter Daniel Kenu was allegedly attacked by the henchmen of Baffour during an altercation at the Kumasi Sports Stadium which led to the journalist reporting the matter to the police on Friday night.
Baffour turned himself in to the police to state his side of the story on Saturday morning before he was bailed as investigations continue into the issue.
Fridayââ¬â¢s alleged assault of Kenu by Baffour's henchmen follows a question the Graphic reporter asked during the press conference. He asked whether the Al Ain striker had used his friend and musician Castro for ritual sacrifice.
This infuriated the Ghana captain before he was calmed down by Ghana FA officials at the Miklin hotel on Wednesday during a press conference organised by the Ghana Football Association.
The journalist had asked the Al Ain striker to clear the air on rumours surrounding the disappearance of Ghanaian popular musician Castro who has gone missing since going on holiday with the striker in a Ghanaian resort - Ada.
This look to have been connected to the alleged attack on Kenu while he was watching the Black Stars training session in Kumasi on Friday.
The Kumasi branch of the GJA is extremely unhappy about the assault on the journalist and has under no uncertain terms condemned the alleged brutalisation of the journalist in Kumasi where the Black Stars are to host Uganda in the 2015 AFCON qualifier.
ââ¬ÅIt should be put on record that whether Asamoah Gyan likes it or not, the rumour is out there and the reporter without any malice wished that he used the occasion to clear himselfââ¬, the statement signed by Listowell Yesu Bukarson, Chairman and Kingsley E. Hope, Secretary, said.
The GJA says it ââ¬Åfinds it strange and shocking that such a nice opportunity given to the player should be abusedââ¬.
A statement by the Ashanti branch of the GJA said Daniel Kenu had gone to the Baba Yara stadium on Friday to pick his accreditation for the Ghana-Uganda AFCON qualifiers game scheduled for Saturday, when Asamoah Gyanââ¬â¢s brother and the machomen accosted him without provocation.
Baffour Gyan, a member of the Ghana squad for the 2008 AFCON, is accused of leading the charge on the Daily Graphic reporter before he waved to alert the machomen to attack the journalist.
