Manchester City defender Yeboah Amankwah has disclosed Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand is “a big role model of mine” and that he hopes to emulate his achievements before calling time on his football career.

The highly-rated Manchester City Under-18 centre-back has been churning out impressive performances for the Cityzens in the Premier League 2, making 13 appearances to help the side to 4th on the standings.

In an exclusive interview with GHANASoccernet.com, Amankwah who is an indigene of the Brong Ahafo Region disclosed that he looked up to the retired England defender during his playing days and hopes to match his feat before retiring from the beautiful game.

"Rio Ferdinand has been my role model since I started playing football because he was a centre back like me. His ability to read the game, distribution of the ball and above all his calmness in defence was super."

"I watched him closely during his playing days and I hope to emulate his achievements in world football. It's weird though because he played for our bitterest neighbours but truth be told he was awesome to watch."

Ferdinand won six Premier League titles, one Champions League crown, two League Cups as well as plethora of individual awards.

The 40-year-old ended a 12-year association with United in 2014.

Yeboah visited the country on the ticket of AM-I Sporting Agency which is headed by the highly-rated football scout Ibrahim Sannie.

He has been called up to the Ghana U-20 team  that is preparing for the upcoming Africa Nations Cup.

He will join his teammates in Sogakope for training.
