Ghana youth international Jordan Ayew has explained why he stayed put Marseille during the winter transfer window despite being given limited playing time.

The 19-year-old has made cameo appearances for the French champions after impressing during the summer pre-season.

Jordan was linked with some clubs during the January transfer market but the youngest son of African football legend Abedi Pele claims he was backed by his family to stay at Marseille.

"For six months here I've had time to play more recently. I discussed with my father, my agent, my family, they all gave their opinion and I decided to stay because I am well in Marseille and I want to remain here longer," Ayew said.

"It is a pride for me and my family, I worked hard for six months, and as my family says, the job pays. I'm only 19, I was twice in Ligue 1 and holds twice as in the League Cup. I have to keep working."
