The participation of Asante Kotoko in this season’s Africa club competition precisely the CAF Confederation Cup has ensured Ghana obtained a point on the CAF Rankings.
Ghana’s four slots in Africa club competition has been slashed to two as clubs in the country have consistently failed to perform better in Africa.
Kotoko’s performance in Africa has ensured an additional point has been added to that of Ghana’s ranking.
CAF has a coefficient system which allows countries to obtain one or two slots each in the Champions League and the Confederation.
Due to inconsistent performances of Ghanaian teams in Africa over the years, Ghana has missed out on the top 12 countries ranked in Africa which are able to present two teams each for the respective competitions.
For Ghana to retain four slots in Africa, an additional 21 points must be targeted by the clubs in addition to the nine points which the country currently has.
