LA LIGA / BARCELONA: Nadine Gonçalves: \"My husband was in charge of it all\"

Published on: 25 February 2016

The mother of Neymar, Nadine Gonçalves Da Silva, gave evidence as a defendant under questioning from José de la Mata at the National Court. Although the initial plan was to have given evidence from Brazil, in the end, the footballer's mother opted to do so from Spain, where she resides with her son.

assistance of an interpreter, Gonçalves revealed little more than that she signed everything that her husband asked her to because she fully trusted him. These claims bear a striking resemblance to those made by her son when he gave evidence on 2nd February.

The Barcelona star spoke of how upon joining the Catalan giants, his involvement didn't go any further than to sign the documents he was handed by his father. Neymar's father corroborated this information, explaining that his son played no part in the transfer dealings. After having assumed full responsibility for the transfer, Neymar's father sought to stress that all of the dealings were completed correctly, distancing himself from the allegations that the contracts were drawn up between the two clubs (Santos and Barcelona), both of which are also under investigation as legal entities.

Following Gonçalves' declarations, a representative from the family business, N&N Consultoría Esporteiva e Empresarial, was called to give evidence. The employee explained that the business had been created by the player's parents, revealing that the idea behind it was to promote the Brazilian's career after he had signed for Barcelona.
