Poch unsure on Llorente's plans

Published on: 13 December 2018

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino admits he hasn't spoken to Fernando Llorente who has indicated he wants to leave the club in January.

The 33-year-old striker has scored six goals in 38 appearances for Spurs since signing from Swansea in 2017 but is out of contract at the end of this season.

Llorente has hinted that he would prefer to return to his former club Athletic Bilbao, but Pochettino would only say: "Still we didn't talk. I think it's not a thing we need to plan too much.

"Sometimes in football when the moment arrives we're going to talk and we're going to decide the best for the team, for the club and for the player of course."

Llorente, who has played just 46 minutes in the Champions League and Premier League this season, scored 111 goals in 327 games for Athletic Bilbao between 2005 and 2013.

"If I have the opportunity and they come to talk to me, probably, yes, is the truth," the striker said earlier in the week.

"Come back now or in the summer? I do not know. It does not depend on me. To go out in the winter market they would have to talk to [Tottenham chairman Daniel] Levy and I cannot do anything."

Spurs, 3/10 to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season, are 1/6 to beat Burnley this weekend.
