Zarqa: Syria sealed top spot in Group A of the West Asian Football Federation U-15 Boys Championship 2019 following Bahrain’s 1-0 win over Lebanon on Friday.

Bahrain, who drew 1-1 with Syria in their opening match, needed to beat Lebanon by two clear goals for a chance to advance into the next round, but only a solitary goal by Kamal Saleh separated the two sides at the end.

With both Bahrain and Syria on four points, the slim victory was not enough for Bahrain as Syria advanced into the second round-robin on the Fair Play rule.

Syria will face the top teams from Groups B and C to determine the top three spots in the championship.

In Group B, Jordan cruised into the next round of the competition after defeating Palestine 4-1 to take top spot ahead of Palestine and Oman.

The hosts, who defeated Oman 2-0 in their opener on Monday, were too strong for Palestine as they secured their second win to advance as group winners.

Saudi Arabia advanced into the next round in style after an emphatic 6-1 win over Kuwait in Group C, as they claimed top spot.

Kuwait could not match their opponents as they ended their campaign with a point to finish second above Iraq.

The tournament format will see the top team from each of the three groups squaring off in a second round-robin competition, with the same applying for the second and third-placed teams.
