Van Basten: "Matthew Amoah needs time"

Ghana striker Matthew Amoah needs more time to be able to regain his scoring touch, says Heerenveen coach Marco van Basten.

The 31-year-old striker has left no lasting impression on the legendary coach in his early days at the Dutch club.

Amoah, who joined the club three weeks ago, has been struggling to regain his form after struggling for playing time at Turkish side Mersin Idman Yurdu.

However the Ghanaian striker has the support of van Basten who thinks Amoah has not reached his peak physically.

"He needs time to be physically very fit. I'm not worried about it, he's pretty close there," Van Basten said when talking about the form of Amoah.

Amoah joined Heerenveen from the Turkish Mersin Idman Yurdu, where he had a miserable debut season.

He previously played for NAC Breda, Borussia Dortmund, Vitesse and Fortuna Sittard
