Legendary Inter goalkeeper Walter Zenga is not convinced that Christian Eriksen should be in the starting line-up for Inter in this weekend's top of the table clash away to Lazio.
Eriksen joined the club in a circa €20 million deal from Premier League Tottenham Hotspur during the recent January transfer window and Zenga has admitted that he feels the physical nature of the match does not suit a player like Eriksen.
“The Dane must find his position on the pitch. In such a delicate game, I think Antonio Conte will want to rely on those who already know his game plan. Eriksen is very attacking and gives a lot of quality but he may have difficulty against the physical midfield of Lazio, with Milinkovic-Savic set to return,” he explained in an interview with Italian radio station TMW Radio earlier on today.
Zenga then briefly spoke on Inter's goalkeeping situation with number one goalkeeper Samir Handanovic currently out injured with a hairline fracture to the small finger in his left hand and Daniele Padelli standing in for him in his absence.
“Without taking anything away from Padelli, the Slovenian is on another level.”
Zenga spent 16 years on Inter's books between the years 1978 and 1994 and made no less than 473 appearances for the club during that time. The 58 time Italian national team player kept a very impressive 194 clean sheets for the club and was a huge fan favourite who is very much still appreciated even now.
